Over the weekend I finally decided to dye my hair! I used pink lemonade kool aid, so it only lasts a few days and is super easy to do.
The dye is a mixture of kool aid, water, and conditioner. After I mixed it up, it looked so much like yogurt, I wanted to eat it!
I got some help applying it from my roommate Misha!
After leaving the dye in all night, I took a shower to wash it out and then curled it!
I'm so happy with how it turned out! It's fun but subtle!

Between finals week and coming home for break, I haven't been posting much! But here's an article I wrote a bit ago for HerCampus IU; see the original here!
The oversized sweater: it’s a new classic. It’s slouchy and boyish, but so comfy and easy to wear! Wear it with a long necklace and slim boot-cut jeans to make it more feminine.
The sweater dress is the classiest member of the sweater family. Wear it with a long scarf to make a long dress more proportional! If it’s too dressy, slip on some colored tights for a little more fun.
At this time of year, vests are less about warmth and more about fashion. Wear with a long-sleeved, flowy top and skinny jeans in muted coordinating colors for a stylish, bohemian look.
More concerned about keeping warm? A thick wool sweater is perfect! Bigger is better, whether it’s the chunky cable knit or cute buttons. Wear some black leggings and sleek boots underneath so your whole body doesn’t look puffy!
It’s a literal animal print! This vintage-y, eclectic look is not for the faint of heart. Stand out even more when you add a sparkly rhinestone tank underneath and carry a brightly colored bag!
Embellished sweaters are huge this season. Add a little shine to your holiday outfit! To keep things classic, wear striped or floral keds and carry a cute retro tote bag.
These soft, short-sleeved sweaters are perfect for a lazy day. Wear with a pair of IU sweatpants while you cheer for your favorite team on TV: Go Hoosiers!
For some reason I thought it would be really cold today. It's finally December, after all-- it should be winter! It was actually quite nice, not that I can complain. And who cares if you're a bit hot in your coat when you look cute!

Are you seeing a pattern here? I spend so little money on my clothes, and I love it!
Yes, a few days ago was birdfriend's very first craft fair. It was held in the Indiana Memorial Union at IU, run by the Union Board. There were around 10 other booths: mostly jewelry, scarves, and art. I had been very busily (and stressfully) knitting and crocheting as many headbands as I could, and ended up with a decent amount! But not before making a huge mess in the lounge putting them together.
Here is a sampling of what I had:

I borrowed a little card table from a friend and got everything all set up. We had a pretty steady stream of people in the three hours we were there. And I sold two right off the bat!
And I had a bunch of friends who came to visit me and brought me dinner and stuff :)
I also set out the t-shirts I printed (seen here) but didn't sell any. But I'll be trading a few for some prints by Mike Ferris who contacted me on tumblr, so that'll be exciting!

This is definitely very '70s inspired. Definitely. In fact, the blouse might actually be from the '70s, as I bought it at Goodwill. It's not exactly paisley, but I would imagine it would be in the same family if paisley was in a family (picture at the bottom). While doing some research about it online, I found it described as having a "pussy bow," whatever that means.

And here without the vest. It is borrowed from my mom. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it; I know that these kinds of vests are on trend but I think this might have been too big. But it was chilly and I was going to Broad Ripple so I decided to be practical and wear it.

as you can see, i'm wearing my lovely t-shirt featuring a whole bunch of bows. and as is so often the case, instead of creating an outfit around a cool t-shirt, i just put on a cool t-shirt and then put a bunch of other stuff on too. sometimes i am proud of the results. in this case i wore the blazer because i wanted to be slightly dressy for a friend's birthday dinner but also didn't want to change out of the t-shirt...

So this weekend I decided to use my newfound screenprinting prowess for fun and not class! I had ordered a bunch of white t-shirts wholesale and decided to print my own designs.
Number one and probably my favorite: bows bows bows!

I also acted as Mama Mackenzie and helped out Kylie and Julie with their own designs. Here they are using the Eagle Stance:
Making me cringe but getting it done. Their shirts were a quote from Merlin, which they translated into runes and cut out by hand....
We also got to the point where we started printing on things we were wearing. Like Julie's jeans. Here she is wearing a skirt she constructed out of spare t-shirts for the half hour she wasn't wearing any pants:

My final design: MAKE EVERYTHING! I really love these t-shirts and definitely will be making more.

Outerwear: In this weather, jackets and coats are essential. Instead of covering up your outfit when you go outside, incorporate outerwear into your style! Vests have seen a good showing this season, whether puffy and quilted or covered in fur. Leather jackets are also forever on trend. Make sure you get faux fur and leather for a cheaper and kinder alternative! A great place to shop for outerwear of this kind is J. Crew.
Shoes: This year, try something a little different from those ubiquitous Uggs! Kick your style up a notch with military style lace-up boots. Whether canvas or leather, it’s the details that matter. Look for lots of laces, buckles, and grommets! Check out Sperry Topsider’s winter collection for some good options.
Bags: Replace your basic purse with these more stylish, old-fashioned options. Satchels are making a comeback, and they can be carried with the handle or worn cross-body with the longer strap. Small backpacks are also a good option for replacing a purse. Look for leather, canvas, and lots of buckles! Thrift stores and vintage shops are great places to search for a classic bag.
Accessories: When it comes to jewelry, remember: less is more! A menswear-style watch is a definite must. If you can steal an old one from your boyfriend or dad, even better! Cuff bracelets are also a good choice: mix your metals and go for studded leather and chains. Fossil is an excellent store for this. Cold-weather accessories are mandatory, of course! Go for chunky knit scarves and faux fur hats with earflaps. Remember: utilitarian chic is practical, simple, but classic and stylish!
