After 3 years and almost 100 posts on my Typepad, I'm finally switching over to Tumblr. I've been unsatisfied with Typepad for a long time-- I should have done this a long time ago! I'm also changing the format a bit. I'll have bite-sized posts more often about fashion, crafts and all kinds of things. So come follow me over there!!
For as long as I've known him (2 years) my friend Adam has disappeared every week for something called Contra Dancing. He always comes back excited and satisfied. Me and my friends have pressed him for exactly what contra dancing IS, but he always says that he can't explain it. I have been so frustrated and curious that I finally went to a big contra dancing event over the weekend... and I can't describe it either. So here is a video of what happened:
During a square dance Adam said, "It's very high risk, high reward." He was talking about square dancing in particular, although I would have to say this applies to the entire situation. The dance moves were confusing and most of my partners were strangers. To keep from getting dizzy, you were supposed to stare your partner in the eye-- awkward! But soon I noticed that all the dances are just repeating patterns, and someone told me "You're not allowed to say sorry if you make a mistake!" which made me feel a lot better. The music was fun and the fast-paced dances were exhilerating! I also enjoyed how the men would ask the ladies to dance, and spun them around-- it was an old-fashioned experience that I didn't think I'd ever get to take part in. All in all, it was a lot of fun.
