In The Ripple

I think the weather knows I'm on spring break right now, because it has been just GORGEOUS!! I spent the other day with my mom in Broad Ripple, which is a little community just north of downtown Indy. 

It's filled with cute old houses, colorful boutiques, and ecclectic restaurants. 

 

We ate at Three Sisters Cafe: I had heard good things but had never been before! It serves both breakfast and lunch. I got a filet of salmon and my mom had a Mediteranean omelet! 

 

 

Everything was delicious!

We also did a bit of shopping and went into a cool yarn shop, which was so colorful and inspirational!

 

 

We also met the cutest dog in one of the shops. Her name is Wallace and she is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

 

 

Finally, we stopped at Brics (Broad Ripple Ice Cream Station) for some cute scoops. Cotton Candy with rainbow sprinkles and Rainbow Sherbert!

 

 

We walked around a lot and saw the sights, including some cool art.

 

 

 

I just love Broad Ripple, hopefully I'll be able to spend more time here this summer!

 

Happy Pi Day!

It's March 14, otherwise known as 3.14... otherwise known as PI DAY! To celebrate, here are some pictures of tiny, tiny pies that Darby and I made a while back.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

They were a bit messier than expected, but otherwise very adorable and delicious!

Hope you celebrate this holiday by eating lots and lots of pies :)

Darby had to make red beans & rice to get extra credit for her French class, so guess what Cajun meal we had for dinner! I took pictures of the cooking process, which seemed pretty simple:

cut a pepper...

an onion...

some sausage...

drain the beans...

simmer with butter....

add the ingredients, one by one...

along with a can of tomatoes...

cook for 15 minutes...

and voila! serve over rice!

and here we have the happy chef :)

tea time!

One of my favorite traditions when I visit family is to go to Miss Minerva's Tea Room in Culpepr, Virginia. It is quite delightful, with vintage dishes and hundreds of types of tea to choose from.

It is all very whimsical and old-fashioned, two of my favorite things.

Of course my favorite part is the little back room where each guest can pick a hat to wear!

We each ordered our own pot of tea, which were all delightfully mismatched. I drank a nice chai...

...and ate a scone with cream and strawberry jam...

...and some butternut squash soup...

...and a lovely assortment of tiny sandwiches, quiche, stuffed mushrooms, and lemon cake. Although it was all finger food, we were definitely stuffed by the end!!
